A camp was organized by the Reserve Bank of India recently, in the remote villages of Tripura state. The apex bank had been constantly emphasizing on extending the banking facilities in the remote areas of the country. United Bank of India, NABARD and Tripura State Co-operative Bank also participated in the camp. No-frills accounts were opened and loans were also disbursed among the women Self Help Groups. The villagers were also educated about the various banking facilities. The Executive Director of Reserve Bank of India, S. Karuppasamy said, "Education on financial literacy is one of the most important areas that require focus and our officials are working in collaboration with the local bodies. They are very active in educating people on various facilities available to the people from the bank." Sima Narang, member of a Self Help Group said, "We have received a soft loan of Rs 12,000 at very low interest rate from a bank during this camp. With the money, there will be rise in our income and it would enable us to run our families better and educate our children."
